My 40th Birthday at the Marriott

Self Care is a great birthday gift

There are so many reasons to escape the day to day and take a mini vacation. I remember my first time taking a weekend away when I only had one child. It was hard to coordinate, but I needed it so much. I needed to hear myself think and create a space to listen to my thoughts. This recent getaway was no different, accept it was my 40th Birthday. I was also reflective because it fell on Easter Sunday.

My soul needed to regroup and bask in the fact that I had made it 20 years as a mom and now I was a mom of four. It was overwhelming, but humbling at the same time. I sat in quiet, ordered room service, and created an environment that allowed me to slow down. I made myself sit outside and enjoy the cool breeze and the view of the ocean. I was grateful that now I could relax and I even took two days to regroup rather than one day. I also didn’t plan a whole lot of things on the back end.

I decided to take it easy when I arrived home and create less work for myself. It was necessary that at least once a quarter I create such a space. Wellness, self care, and me time have become buzzwords that feel impossible for some families to incorporate. It sometimes feels like a break will never come.

I am grateful that my husband encouraged me to take care of myself. The Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa was a great resort and had the view that made my weekend even more amazing. It is perched on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, this upscale resort hotel is 3 miles from Salt Creek Beach Park and 8 miles from Laguna Beach. Click here for more details.
